Middle Ages

Via Marchionis was created as a strategic trade route, connecting Gdańsk, Berlin and Gorzów. Thanks to it, goods, ideas and culture were exchanged between countries.

GENESIS OF THE PROJECT

The Via Marchionis trail has historical significance as a medieval route connecting Brandenburg, Berlin, Gorzów with Gdańsk and Prussia. It still exists today in the form of roads no. 1 (D) and 22 (PL), the Ostbahn/no. 203 railway line and the International Waterway E-70. Its cross-border nature and historical and cultural richness make it an ideal candidate for promoting sustainable tourism and strengthening Polish-German cooperation.

Cross-border cooperation includes the involvement of partners from the Municipality of Rüdersdorf bei Berlin and the Municipality of Santok. A joint design team will supervise the implementation of the project, make decisions about promotion directions and develop a common visual identification system. In addition, the partners will jointly inventory tourist resources, develop a tour offer and conduct a promotional campaign.

The project plans to modernize and supplement tourist infrastructure, including tourist service points. Equipment will also be purchased for the units involved in the project. The infrastructure will be adapted to various forms of tourism, such as water tourism and cycling.

Cross-border cooperation is crucial because cross-border tourism requires the involvement of partners from both countries. Without this cooperation, it would be difficult to create a complete and attractive tourist offer. Thanks to cooperation, it will also be possible to overcome challenges related to the peripheral location of the regions and to promote tourist attractions more effectively.

The expected result is an increase in the number of tourists visiting the region, especially tourists traveling cross-border. The project is also intended to contribute to increasing awareness of the common history and culture of the region and to building lasting relations between local governments and organizations related to tourism and culture on both sides of the border.
